The Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Council, Hon Emmanuel Offiong Bassey, has lamented the utter destruction of the council headquarters during the EndSARS protest which was believed to have been hijacked by hoodlums.
In a chat with reporters, weekend, Hon Bassey said hoodlums invaded the council headquarters at Ikot Nakanda, looted and virtually destroyed everything in the council making it hard for any activity to take place there.
“The action of the hoodlum is barbaric and quite unfortunate coming at a time we are struggling to pick the pieces after the COVID-19 lockdown,” he stated.
Bassey described as shocking and unacceptable the level of destruction in the place which he said is the only avenue which can attract government development effort in a rural area like Akpabuyo, adding “The shift in development from Calabar urban to Akpabuyo is because of the relative peace that exist here but the recent events have shattered everything.
Bassey further lamented that Akpabuyo local Government Area which would be thirty years since its creation, has now been brought to its knees, saying everything the council put in place and held dear within the last thirty years had been destroyed.
“Akpabuyo, which many see as a blessed land has been taken thirty years back and we need to start all over again,” he stated, and therefore called on youths of the area to sheath their sword, embrace peace and join hands with his administration to bring development back to the area.
