The Cross River state Traditional Rulers Council has commended the Ben Akak Foundation for donating food items worth hundreds of thousands of Naira and N1million cash to the traditional institution in the State to cushion the biting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chairman of the Council and Paramount Ruler of Bakassi local government area, HRM Etinyin Etim Okon Edet who spoke during the visit of the Foundation to the Council, Tuesday, said the gesture has already attracted royal blessings.
“We heartily appreciate the Ben Akak foundation for coming out to give us food in a moment like this in which Covid 19 has caused lockdown across the world. Like Jacob in the Bible did after he ate sumptuous meal from his son, on behalf of the Cross River state Traditional Rulers Council, I declare royal blessings on the foundation. The Chairman of the foundation, Engr Ben Akak will go places and doors shall be opened to him.
“As Traditional Rulers, we do not only custody tradition, we also custody other things like politics and economy, including religion. As custodians, we say with an open heart, thank you for this gesture. Thank you for keying into Gov Ben Ayade’s policy of food on the table for all. This recognition you have given to the traditional rulers in the State will not go unrewarded,” he stated.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Engr Ben Akak had informed the Royal Fathers of the resolve of his foundation to ensure the effects of Covid-19 pandemic is cushioned with donation of food items to households and institutions in the State.
He said: “We are here to pay homage to the traditional institution and to commend them for the maintenance of peace across the State. We know the traditional institution is as old as the creation and so your roles cannot be underestimated.
“As an organization, we will partner with you to ensure you achieve your lofty plans for your people in your respective domain as we have determined to support what our Governor, Prof Ben Ayade is doing in areas of human capital development and empowerment.
“The Ben Akak Foundation represents humanity in all ramifications. In such a time like this, it is only pertinent that we lend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters who have been weighed down by the problem of Covid-19. Our foundation is out to give our people hope that and this pandemic will pass over us.
“The Foundation is committed to empowering women, awarding scholarship to our youths and making life meaningful to our people. Our traditional ruler, being the custodian of our esteemed cultures and traditions are also in our plans,” he stated.
Food items given out included bags of garri, rice, noodles, fish amongst others.
