The Akprangkprang Uda Village Council in Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom state has honoured the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, and three others for their services to the community in particular and Oro nation in general.
The village head of the community, Ovong (Hon) Etim Okon Abang, who performed the award- giving ceremony in his palace explained that the award was “in recognition of SSG’s sterling performances in governance in the State, as well as his community development vision, and promotion of Akprangkprang Uda, Uda community as a whole and Oro nation in general.”
According to the Royal Father, with the help of the SSG, the Uda Community Secondary School, founded about 25 years ago by the Uda people, and which was at the verge of total collapsed, has been taken over by government.
“Dr Ekuwem did this for our people just within eight months of being in office. As we speak, my people, who are qualified to teach are now working in that school, many of our students who were schooling in other schools far from home have been withdrawn and as at today the school has picked up again with quality teachers and other staff,” Ovong Abang stated.
Also honoured was a member representing Mbo State constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Samuel Ufuo, who Chief Abang praised to high heaven for singlehandedly giving Akprangkprang people a solar-powered boreholes.
The Village head, who was flanked by other traditional rulers, explained further that Hon Ufuo was recognized for his “good representation of Mbo people and fulfillment of his electioneering promises to the people of Akprangkprang Uda.”
Youth philanthropist, Osongodok Edet Okon and the youth president of the community, Ulap Samuel Etim Asuquo, were also given award for their various contributions to the development and well being of the people of the community.
Ovong Abang said apart from giving out cash to some sick folks for surgical operations, Okon also donated a Unity Cup trophy to youths of the area with cash prizes to competing football teams during last Christmas festivities to keep them occupied.
Asuquo, on his part was commended for his ability to mobilize youths for thorough monthly sanitation of the community and inculcating in them commitment for community service, which according to Ovong Abang, has caused Akprangkprang Uda to be one of the peaceful and cleanest community in Mbo.
Responding, Mr Osongodok Edet Okon, who also represented the SSG in the occasion, commended the community for the recognition accorded them, and promised to utilize every opportunity at their disposal to add meaning to the life of every Uda son and daughter.
