Member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South federal constituency in the House of Representatives and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 National Assembly elections, Rt. Hon. Essien Ekpenyong Ayi, has charged his campaign team to holistically deliver all PDP candidates in the forth coming general elections.
Speaking while inaugurating the campaign team, the four-term lawmaker said the campaign goal should be to deliver PDP candidates in all levels, national and state, and that although the party had been disadvantaged by reason of losing the centre, the resolve to take over power was very strong and would be rewarded with success.
He charged the team to embark on issues-based campaign, adding “our campaigning activities will be based on issues. This is the first time we are campaigning as an opposition: before we used to campaign as a ruling party, campaigning as an opposition means that the system, the style must change. We must adopt strategies that are typical of an opposition. We have to campaign and show people that we deserve to be elected.”
“I am a candidate for the fifth time. And in the history of Cross River State, this is the first time this type of thing has happened. And, this is the first time we are contesting as an opposition party. Right from the beginning, we had been in the ruling party. I felt we should put everything together in order to help us adequately prepare for the 18th of November date when INEC would lift ban on campaigns for the presidential and national assembly elections.
“Since we are coming from that position of opposition, we should rearrange things not as it used to be before. Even though this team is the central planning committee of Essien Ayi Campaign organisation, we have the task of delivering all our candidates from the presidential, the governor, to the House of Assembly.
“We are going to do our own part, if others candidates have their own campaign teams, we will synergise. All efforts will be towards one goal and that goal is to deliver the PDP in the forthcoming elections.
“We are going to do a thorough campaign. We will sell our party, we will sell our manifesto. We will make sure that we tell the people the real need for the change. It is now that we need the change, because things are too difficult,” he stated.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon Inyang Nyong who spoke on behalf of the Director General Hon Francis Ekeng, promised to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that Ayi emerged victorious in the oncoming contest, but charged the Lawmaker to provide all necessary logistics like campaign vehicles, offices in the three local government areas and printed materials to enhance their works.
“I want to really thank you very much for not only choosing us but for this great confidence reposed on us, the trust that we can deliver on this mandate. I want to stand here on behalf of all these prominent politicians that I know too well have the capacity to deliver on this mandate to assure you that come 2019, you and the rest of the candidates you have mentioned here will emerge victoriously,” he has assured.
Members of the Committee include Hon. Chief Inyang Nyong Okon (Chairman, who also doubles as Akpabuyo LGA coordinator), Hon. Stanley Edet (Secretary), Hon. Ani Esin (member/LGA coordinator for Bakassi) and Hon Orok Oliver (member/Coordinator for Calabar South LGA). Other members include Hon Francis Etang, Dr Inyang Asibong, Dr Ekpo Ekpo Bassey and many others.
