Report making the rounds in Cross River State that many appointees of the Cross River State government do not have offices and official cars to carry out their duties may be true afterall as Pillar newspaper captured the Special Assistant to the Governor and Coordinator NGOs, Mrs. Blessing Okpokam sitting in back of an open pickup truck on June 29, 2017, severely drenched as the vehicle headed to Calabar from Iko-Esai village in Akamkpa LGA.
Okpokam and her team reportedly went to carry out their official government function on that day. Investigations indicated that no official vehicle has been given to her office, hence the pathetic situation.
The Hilux’s Development Concerns team who saw her on top of commercial motorcycles along the bad Iko-Esai road in the rain had stopped to help her out. They gave the available space at the back of the truck for her and some of her team to ‘manage.’Reports say the road is under construction by Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs
Unconfirmed reports indicated that many appointees are suffering similar treatment, but while some are complaining bitterly and allegedly planning to throw in the towel, others, our reporter gathered, have decided to bear their suffering while praying that the Almighty would speak to the Governor to help them with official vehicles especially as the rain begins in earnest.
