Former Senate President, Sen Joseph Wayas, as well as other prominent indigenes of Cross River state would grace the civic reception ceremony to be organised by leaders and people of Northern senatorial district of the state in honour of Gov Ben Ayade.
Addressing Journalists in Calabar on the preparation for the event, Chairman of the media/publicity subcommittee, Ntufam Peter Ojie, said that while former Rivers State military administrator, Brig Gen Anthony Ukpo rtd, would chair the event, other prominent Cross Riverians like Sen Musa Adede, Barr Kanu Agabi, Nicolas Damashi amongst others, would be special guests of honour.
Ojie explained further that the people of Northern senatorial district of Cross River state were honouring Ayade for doing them proud, and that the event would take place on 24th of this month in Ogoja.
He explained that since Ayade was the first and only governor to ever emerge from the zone, he needs to be encouraged and appreciated, noting, “Cross River State has had about 6 governors and we have never had an opportunity to produce one. This is indeed the first time in the history of Cross River state for someone from the northern part of the State to become Governor, and besides, he has made us proud.
“If you recall, there was a reception organised for former governor Donald Duke who is from the Southern senatorial district when he was governor, and another one for Sen Liyel Imoke, who comes from the central, during his time in charge. It will only be fair for us to also receive our own son as it was done for others.
“We have invited every son and daughter of the northern senatorial district and other Cross Riverians to the event, no matter your political affiliation. This is not a political gathering. We want to use the event to thank God for also making our son Governor.”
